Microsoft Authenticator; Frequently Asked Questions


Q. What does MFA stand for?

A. MFA stands for Multi-Factor Authentication. These factors are typically something you know (password) and something you have (physical device, such as smartphone). 



Q. Why are we getting rid of our current MFA method, Duo mobile App?

A. Azure Multi-Factor Authentication is a new feature included in our Microsoft licensing.



Q. When do I have to move to Microsoft Authenticator by?

A. You must register with Microsoft Authenticator by Friday, December 15th to avoid any disruption and account lock out.



Q. I finished registering with Microsoft Authenticator, what now?

A. Great, you are now pre-enrolled! You will still authenticate with Duo Mobile App until we have officially moved over to Microsoft Authenticator. We will send communication once we have moved over.



Q. What happens to the rest of my apps outside of ENERCON in Duo Mobile App?

A. Nothing. You will still be able to authenticate with other apps you registered inside of Duo Mobile. You just will no longer use Duo mobile App to authenticate with your ENERCON account(s) after we have moved everything over.



Q. Do I have to uninstall Duo Mobile App?

A. No. You will still be able to utilize Duo Mobile App with apps outside of ENERCON.



Q. Should I go ahead and delete my ENERCON account from Duo Mobile App?

A. No. You will still authenticate with Duo Mobile App until we have officially moved everything over to Microsoft Authenticator. We will send communication once we have moved over.



Q. Can I move my apps outside of ENERCON to the new MFA method?

A. Yes. If you wish to move your apps, you can. You will be responsible for any apps outside of ENERCON. Please be sure to read through any instructions from the app vendor.



Q. Are Apple Watch or Android wearable devices supported for Microsoft Authenticator?

A. Apple Watch and Android wearable devices (such as Samsung Galaxy Watch) are currently incompatible with Authenticator’s security features.



Q. I can't add my work or school account to Microsoft Authenticator and I am receiving the following error: “We could not complete the sign-in at this time. Please ensure push notifications are enabled in Settings and your network connection is stable.”

A. Press OK to dismiss the message and then go to Settings and make sure push notifications are enabled and you have network connectivity. You can also remove your account and attempt the sign in again. If you are still not able to add your account, please reach out to your admin.



Q. What does a Microsoft Authenticator App push look like?

A. When you log in to an ENERCON application that requires MFA, you will be be prompted with a number. You will need to type that number into the Microsoft Authenticator app to complete the login approval.
