Meeting Owl Quick Start Guide

Do First

  • Obtain a USB-A adapter for your laptop computer. One should be with the owl. If not, contact IT.

  • Reserve the conference room with an Owl.


Owl set up

  • Plug in the USB cable and power cord on the base of the Owl.

  • Plug the USB cable into your laptop computer.

  • Plug the Owl into an outlet. You will see the Owl’s eye illuminate and pulse. After a few seconds you will hear a hoot. This indicates the Meeting Owl is ready to use.

unit when the microphone is muted, and you will see the red muted microphone icon on your video

conferencing screen.


Owl placement in the room

Place the Owl in a location that will capture the projection screen, whiteboards, etc. without obstruction, and no more than 12 ft from the meeting host. Practice with the

Meeting Owl in your space to ensure the video and audio functions work as needed.

How to start a meeting in Microsoft Teams

To start a meeting in Microsoft Teams on a Windows computer, set up your Meeting Owl, and then use the following instructions to start a meeting.

  • In the Microsoft Teams main window, click your profile picture in the top right of the window then select Settings from the drop-down menu.

  • Select Devices from the menu on the left.

  • Choose Meeting Owl as your Audio devices (Speaker & Microphone).

  • Scroll down to Camera.

  • Choose Meeting Owl as your Camera

  • Select the participants you would like to call from either the Chat, Teams, or Calls menu on the left.

  • Select the video icon to start your call.


How to adjust Volume, Audio devices and Camera settings

To adjust volume and noise suppression, change audio devices and speaker as well as Camera settings, visit the device settings menu in Teams. This can be done while both on and off calls.

  • While in call: (Figure 4)

    • Select the 3 dot horizontal ellipses in the Teams in-call menu bar

    • Select Device Settings

    • Adjust desired settings as needed

  • While not in a call: (Figure 5)

    • Select the 3 dot horizontal ellipses in the Teams menu bar

    • Select Settings

    • Select Devices tab

    • Adjust desired settings as needed

  • Physical Buttons on Owl Camera

    • Video and volume settings can be adjusted on the base of the camera
